The F4J Phantom was designed as a twin-engine, long range supersonic interceptor. During the Vietnam war, this platform also served in ground attack and aerial reconnaissance roles as well. Outfitted with the J79-GE-10 engine, the J model received a respectable thrust improvement (additional 7,000 lbf) over it’s predecessor models, along with a variety of aerodynamic improvements, airframe reinforcement, and digital/avionic upgrades.
